Rural Press Club of Queensland
The RURAL PRESS CLUB aims to strengthen the links between rural media, public relations , agriculture, business and government groups in Queensland. It also offers members entry to national and worldwide networks of like-minded colleagues. The Club’s committee is a diverse group of working journalists, media consultants, and agribusiness representatives and meets monthly at the United Services Club.
Committed to excellence in rural journalism and photography, in 2009 the club launched its inaugural Excellence in Rural Journalism Award. The recipient of the award receives air fares and registration to the annual IFAJ conference.The inaugural winner of this prestigious award was Pip Courtney ABC Landline with James Nason Queensland Country Life taking out the top prize in 2010.
In 2010, the club also launched its inaugural Rural Press Club Hall of Fame which aims to recognise and celebrate the contribution and achievements of the rural media to the success of agriculture and to the maintenance of the social fabric of rural and regional Queensland. The recipient's achievements will be on permanent display at a Rural Journalism Hall of Fame section at the Longreach Stockman’s Hall of Fame. In November 2010, the first inductee was Malcolm McCosker. In 2011 Malcolm will celebrate 50 years as a rural journalism– a lifetime commitment to rural industries.
The club also participates in national and international Star Prize Awards for writing, broadcasting and photography and the National Alltech Young Rural Journalist Award.
