The IFAJ and Australia
The ACAJ has had a close involvement with the IFAJ since the 1980s when it hosted a World Congress. The Congress brought delegates from around the world to meet in Australia, and to tour and cover agricultural issues in this country for overseas media outlets.
Australia hosted a second World Congress in 2000, attracting delegates from America, Europe, Africa, Asia and the South Pacific. The program included formal sessions, briefings from government and industry leaders about Australian food and fibre industries, and opportunities to tour SA, NSW and Victoria.
It resulted in significant coverage of Australian industries and issues in media around the world, including segments on a national television program aired by the BBC in Britain; radio segments, magazine and newspaper features in Asia, the US, Africa and Europe.
The ACAJ sends delegates to annual IFAJ conferences, and is represented on the IFAJ executive committee by Liz Kellaway. An award-winning journalist and Churchill Fellow based in Adelaide, Liz has more than 25 years' experience in the media and public relations, specializing in the rural sector. She is also the IFAJ's international editor, responsible for producing a bi-monthly electronic newsletter
